Nameservers explained
What nameservers are and how to point your domain to Dotweb.
On this page
Nameservers tell the internet where to look up your domain. When someone visits your domain, their device asks its nameservers which server answers for it. Pointing your domain at Dotweb’s nameservers lets us manage its DNS and connect it to your hosting or website.
Dotweb’s nameservers
Dotweb uses these four nameservers:
ns1.dotweb.io
ns2.dotweb.io
ns3.dotweb.io
ns4.dotweb.io
Always the same four
These are the only nameservers you need, no matter which plan or server your hosting or website is on. They never change from one customer to another. They run on a global network, so your domain resolves quickly for visitors anywhere in the world.
Point a domain to Dotweb
A domain registered with Dotweb
You can set the nameservers of a Dotweb domain yourself, at any time, in the client area (opens in a new tab). See Changing your nameservers for step by step instructions.
A domain you keep at another registrar
If your domain is registered somewhere else, you can still point it at Dotweb.
- Sign in to your current registrar.
- Find the nameserver or DNS settings for your domain.
- Replace the existing nameservers with the four Dotweb nameservers above.
- Save your changes.
You can also transfer the domain to Dotweb, so it sits in one place with your hosting.
Use all four
Always enter all four nameservers, not just one or two. Having several nameservers keeps your domain reachable even if one is busy, which makes your domain more reliable.
